Sjaantje's second and final Friesian show of the year
was in St. Louis,
MO. She had been in training with Bruce & Staci Griffin
of Griffin Sport
Horses
[Gretna, VA] since March, so they made all the arrangements to get her
there. When we were working on her entries, we knew halter classes were
a definite, and since I want her to be a driving horse, she needed to
enter a couple of carriage classes. Six years ago when Thomas and I
attended our first all Friesian show as spectators we saw our first
tandem riding class. Neither of us had ever seen anything like it, and
Thomas commented on how dangerous it was, and I was mesmerized by the
training of the horses and the skill of the rider. Little did I know
then that I'd be sending one of my horses to a trainer who excels in
tandem riding, which has become both Bruce & Staci's signature
class. So when we decided to send Sjaantje to the IFSHA show, I asked
Bruce if she could be entered in tandem riding, and that dream came
true when she teamed up with stablemate Tiana, who was driven while
Sjaantje was ridden. This show experience was the stuff fairy tales are made of: a year earlier, as I was sitting in the stands at this very same show, watching the exhibitors having so much fun, I started dreaming about sharing one of my beautiful Friesians in such as show. A year later I was living that dream: Bruce showed Sjaantje in 5 classes, winning every one, while I rode in 4 walk/trot classes, earning 3 reserve championships and a 3rd, which was definitely pretty darn good for Sjaantje's and my first national horse show! Thank you, Bruce & Staci Griffin for making my dreams come true and keeping me smiling! |
